Live Stock Cash Tips— Market starts on a cautious note

Sensex, Nifty firm; Coal India, L&T, Wipro early gainers

The market has opened quietly after the late sharp slide on Monday. The Sensex is down 8.35 pointsat 28966.7 and the Nifty is up 1.60 points at 8756.55. About 503 shares have advanced, 208 shares declined, and 122 shares are unchanged.

Tata Power, Coal India, Hindalco, L&T and Wipro are top gainers in the Sensex. Among the losers are Sesa Sterlite, HDFC, Bharti, SBI and Dr Reddy's Labs.

Nifty holds 8750 levels: – The Nifty was at 8760 up 5 points or 0.06 per cent. It touched a high of 8755.55 and a low of 8744.50 in trade today.
The Indian rupee has opened higher at 62.25 per dollar against previous day's closing value of 62.32 a dollar. The dollar holds steady against the yen ahead of congressional testimony by Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.

Indian Stock Market Closing News Update

The market tumbled on first day of crucial Budget week. The Sensex slumped 256.30 points or 0.9 percent at 28975.11, and the Nifty slipped 78.65 points or 0.9 percent at 8754.95. About 1201 shares advanced, 1707 shares declined and 209 shares were unchanged.

Reliance fell 3 percent while GAIL, SBI, Tata Steel and Axis Bank were among the laggards in the Sensex. Among the gainers were M&M, TCS, Sesa Sterlite and NTPC.
